Multi-line eForms

An eForm record is functionally very similar to a row in a database table. Some records it may be useful to have some fields that contain more than one value. A simple option for doing this is to make an eForm be multi-line.

In multi-line eForms, one record will contain multiple lines and each line is identified by [LineNumber]. If you need to refer to a specific column in a formula you can use this syntax:[Amount]#7.

Any multi-line fields need to be set up as not “Header”.

What does ‘Header?’ do exactly?

All columns are by default considered HeaderColumns. If you have no multi-line fields in your form, then this has no visible effect.

IF you have a record that has data on multiple lines

THEN all fields that are marked as Header = TRUE will be replicated over each line

From the above example, you might visualise it as:

Item Description Amount Total
Travel -$1000.00 -$100.00
Accomodation -$1000.00
Partial Payment $2100.00
Supplies -$200.00

Notice that Total has only one value. If you were to do a tabular report of this record, you would actually see:

Item Description Amount Total
Travel -$1000.00 -$100.00
Accomodation -$1000.00 -$100.00
Partial Payment $2100.00 -$100.00
Supplies -$200.00 -$100.00

It is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but this helps when writing formulas, and with tabular reports.
